Varsity vs Morton High School Loss Half 0-0 Final MS 0 Morton (home) 1 MS fell to 16-4-2 on the season with a road loss to Morton. Morton has been one of the top teams in the state and dominant all season with a 20-1-1 record. It was the best 80 minute game of the season for the Bulldogs. Fullbacks Cam Nelson and Lily Carlson had huge growth and adjustments over the last few to have their best performances of the year. They were great. Pair that with center backs Marissa Thompson and Cassia Sperry doing a fantastic job organizing the back line and controlling space for keeper Lainey Jacobs to have another fantastic night. Jacobs continues her hot streak with 12 saves on the night and stopping quite a few attacks by coming forward and beating the Morton attackers to the ball. The bulldog mids made a huge jump from the Normal West tie two weeks ago. After playing against that new formation, the girls were better prepared for Morton tonight and Ava Watkins, Erika Johnson, Hanna Creel, and Izzy Lietz looked steady and solid. They needed to be in order to matchup against a Morton midfield unit that has dominated games and not allowed most teams into their half much. Strikers Ella Walk and Paislee Welge drew the hardest matchup of the night, going against a backline that has only allowed two goals total in 22 games. They created some chances and were constantly pressuring the backline to make mistakes. Overall, the game was exactly what the Bulldogs need to go into postseason play. That starts Monday night, 430, at champaign Central against the 7 or 10 seed.
