Boys Cross Coutry 1st at Clinton to open the season

On Saturday, August 29th, the Mahomet-Seymour High School Boys XC team competed in the Clinton Light It Up Invitational at Clinton High School. This is our second year attending the meet. There were two boys races: an open race at 7:00pm and a varsity race at 8:15pm. A team must have five finishers in order to count as a “complete” team and score in the competition. In the open race, 29 teams competed, with 13 being complete teams. There were 191 individual finishers. MSHS placed 1st. This is our 2nd time winning the open race. The top three teams were: Mahomet (M.-Seymour) 25 Clinton 66 Monticello 71 Our open race scorers were Carter Alderks (1st), Gavin McMinn (3rd), Jake Mills (4th), Henry Welch (7th), and Garen Johnson-Farkhoyan (10th). In the varsity race, 42 teams competed, with 26 being complete teams. There were 214 individual finishers. MSHS placed 1st. This is our 2nd time winning the varsity race. The top three teams were: Mahomet (M.-Seymour) 76 Normal (University) 84 Clinton 109 Our varsity race scorers were Tay Gergen (6th), Adam Smigielski (8th), Tate Bode (19th), Liam Burwell (23rd), and Abdel Abdo (25th). Top 25 finishers in the varsity race earned medals. We had five medalists–Tay Gergen (6th), Adam Smigielski (8th), Tate Bode (19th), Liam Burwell (23rd), and Abdel Abdo (25th). We keep records of the fastest individual and team times for MSHS at this meet. Tate Bode ran the 3rd fastest MSHS senior time ever at this meet with his 15:44. Jack Van Hoorn ran the 4th fastest MSHS senior time ever at this meet with his 16:11. Jackson Koontz ran the 5th fastest MSHS senior time ever at this meet with his 16:44. Blake Patrick ran the 7th fastest MSHS senior time ever at this meet with his 19:01. Tay Gergen ran the fastest MSHS junior time ever at this meet with his 15:15. Adam Smigielski ran the 2nd fastest MSHS junior time ever at this meet with his 15:19. Liam Burwell ran the 4th fastest MSHS junior time ever at this meet with his 15:56. Carter Alderks ran the 5th fastest MSHS junior time ever at this meet with his 16:13. Henry Welch ran the 6th fastest MSHS junior time ever at this meet with his 17:11. Corbin Moser ran the 11th fastest MSHS sophomore time ever at this meet with his 19:19. Eric Webber ran the 12th fastest MSHS sophomore time ever at this meet with his 19:45. Everest Guerrero ran the 13th fastest MSHS sophomore time ever at this meet with his 19:46. Gavin McMinn ran the fastest MSHS freshman time ever at this meet with his 16:40. Wyatt Kearns ran the 4th fastest MSHS freshman time ever at this meet with his 17:44. Duncan Gutzmer ran the 7th fastest MSHS freshman time ever at this meet with his 19:35. Luke Nickrent ran the 8th fastest MSHS freshman time ever at this meet with his 19:42. The team had the 2nd fastest top 5 average we've had at this meet. The team had the 2nd fastest top 7 average we've had at this meet. The team had the fastest team average we've had at this meet. We had 6 runners run a lifetime 3-mile personal best--Jackson Koontz, Jack Van Hoorn, Liam Burwell, Tay Gergen, Garen Johnson-Farkhoyan, and Jake Mills. We had 7 runners complete their first high school 3-mile race–Abdel Abdo, Lucas Demos, Everest Guerrero, Duncan Gutzmer, Wyatt Kearns, Gavin McMinn, and Luke Nickrent.
