On Saturday, September 12th, the Mahomet-Seymour High School Boys XC team competed in the Lee Halberg Invitational at Lincoln Park in Springfield. This is our 21st year attending the meet. There were two boys races–a varsity race at 10:30am and a junior varsity race (open) at 11:15am. A team must have five finishers in order to count as a “complete” team and score in the competition. In the varsity race, 16 teams competed, with 14 being complete teams. There were 101 individual finishers. MSHS placed 2nd. The top three teams were: Mundelein 69 Mahomet (M.-Seymour) 85 Normal (Community West) 94 Our scorers were Adam Smigielski (3rd), Abdel Abdo (4th), Tay Gergen (7th), Carter Alderks (39th), and Jackson Koontz (45th). The top 30 finishers earned medals. We had three medalists–Adam Smigielski (3rd), Abdel Abdo (4th), and Tay Gergen (7th). In the junior varsity race, 16 teams competed, with 13 being complete teams. There were 169 individual finishers MSHS placed 1st. This is our 9th time winning the open. The top three teams were: Mahomet (M.-Seymour) 18 Normal (Community) 96 Normal (Community West) 98 Our scorers were Henry Welch (1st), Jake Mills (2nd), Kiptyn Fan (3rd), Gavin McMinn (4th), and Garen Johnson-Farkhoyan (8th). The top 20 finishers earned medals. We had eight medalists–Henry Welch (1st), Jake Mills (2nd), Kiptyn Fan (3rd), Gavin McMinn (4th), Garen Johnson-Farkhoyan (8th), Wyatt Kearns (10th), Will Bednar (17th), and Dominic Bruns (18th). The previous team record was seven medalists, held by the 2016/2024 teams. We keep records of the fastest individual and team times for MSHS at this meet. Adam Smigielski ran the 15th fastest MSHS junior time ever at this meet with his 16:13. Tay Gergen ran the 20th fastest MSHS junior time ever at this meet with his 16:29. Abdel Abdo ran the 8th fastest MSHS sophomore time ever at this meet with his 16:15. Gavin McMinn ran the 5th fastest MSHS freshman time ever at this meet with his 17:55. Wyatt Kearns ran the 13th fastest MSHS freshman time ever at this meet with his 18:40. We had one runner run a lifetime 3-mile best–Dax Taylor. Mahomet-Seymour individual results can be found below.
