Boys Cross Country 1st at Charleston Today, the Mahomet-Seymour High School Boys Cross Country team competed in the Charleston Invitational at Eastern Illinois University. 21 schools competed in the meet, with 19 of those schools bringing complete teams (5 or more runners). The team placed 1st. This is our first time winning the meet since 2021. Mahomet-Seymour won with 75 points, Olney placed 2nd with 99 points, and Mt. Zion placed 3rd with 118 points. Our scorers today were junior Henry McMurry (6th), junior Auggie Gaudio (7th), senior Kaleb Kasper (19th), senior Zach Wilcoski (20th), and senior Lukas Nykaza (21st). Top 40 medal. We had 9 medalists--junior Henry McMurry (6th), junior Auggie Gaudio (7th), senior Kaleb Kasper (19th), senior Zach Wilcoski (20th), senior Lukas Nykaza (21st), sophomore Tate Bode (24th), freshman Liam Burwell (27th), freshman Adam Smigielski (31st), and junior Corban McMinn (40th). We keep records of the fastest times run by class for MSHS runners at the Charleston Invitational. Kaleb Kasper ran the 23rd fastest MSHS senior time with a 16:52. Henry McMurry ran the 15th fastest MSHS junior time with a 16:14. Auggie Gaudio ran the 16th fastest MSHS junior time with a 16:15. Tate Bode ran the 21st fastest MSHS sophomore time with a 17:06. Liam Burwell ran the 17th fastest MSHS freshman time with a 17:22. Adam Smigielski ran the 21st fastest MSHS freshman time with a 17:32. Senior Gavin Fan, senior Kaleb Kasper, senior Zach Wilcoski, junior Ben Schultz, sophomore Jackson Koontz, sophomore Blake Patrick, and sophomore Jack Van Hoorn all ran lifetime 3-mile personal bests. The team had a very strong day. Our 22 runners ran the 4th fastest team average for any MSHS team since joining the meet in 2005. Next weekend, the team will compete at Lincoln Park in Springfield in the Lee Halberg Invitational.
