1st half MS (home) 3 Centennial 0 Final 4-0 MS moved to 10-4-2 on the season against Centennial. After being snubbed and given the two seed in the regional because two of the bottom teams in the regional voted that the Bulldogs were the 3rd or 4th best team in the area, the Bulldogs were on a mission. By dominating the game, and controlling the ball in each of the areas of the field, the Bulldogs completed a sweep of the area's best teams. Lainey Jacobs got another clean sheet with no goals allowed. The defense had their best offensive showing. Holland Martin and Paislee Welge were able to possess the ball out of the back consistently with Jacobs rather than settling for long clearances. Our ability to move the ball from the backs to the forwards created opportunities all day. The mids matched up and cancelled Centennial strengths. Izzy Lietz, Ava Watkins, and Hanna Creel neutralized a girl who entered and then left the game with 29 goals on the season, as well as another who was the News Gazette player of the year last year. The Bulldogs were deeper top to bottom and were able to play around the strong midfield unit of Centennial. The depth of the team was on display as the Bulldogs played pretty and moved the ball consistently on the ground. The Bulldogs go on the road tomorrow to try to keep the lead in the conference at Mattoon.
