Saturday morning, the Mahomet-Seymour High School Boys XC Team competed at Olney Central College in Olney in the IHSA 2A #1B Regional. There was one girls varsity race at 10am followed by a boys varsity race at 10:45am. Top 6 teams qualify for the sectional meet. Top 5 individuals not on a qualifying team also qualify for the sectional meet. 12 teams competed, with 11 being full teams (at least 5 runners). There were 75 individual finishers. The team placed 1st with 35 points, beating out Urbana (2nd, 55 points) and Mt. Zion (3rd, 96 points) for the title. In the 56-year history of the program, this is our 20th time winning the regional meet. Our scorers were Adam Smigielski (2nd), Tay Gergen (3rd), Liam Burwell (8th), Jack Van Hoorn (11th), and Carter Alderks (14th). Top 5 medaled, earning All-Regional honors. We had two medalists--Adam Smigielski (2nd) and Tay Gergen (3rd). We keep records of the fastest individual and team times for MSHS at this meet. It should be noted that the location of the meet changes every year. Jack Van Hoorn ran the 25th fastest MSHS junior time ever at this meet with his 16:19. Adam Smigielski ran the 2nd fastest MSHS sophomore time ever at this meet with his 15:23. Tay Gergen ran the 4th fastest MSHS sophomore time ever at this meet with his 15:35. Liam Burwell ran the 14th fastest MSHS sophomore time ever at this meet with his 16:16. Carter Alderks ran the 20th fastest MSHS sophomore time ever at this meet with his 16:26. Caleb Zulauf ran the 12th fastest MSHS freshman time ever at this meet with his 16:50. The team had the fastest top 5 and top 7 averages we've had at the regional meet since 2017. We had 2 runners run lifetime 3-mile personal bests--Adam Smigielski and Jack Van Hoorn. Full Mahomet-Seymour can be found below. The team's next meet will be the IHSA 2A #1 Sectional Meet at Lake Land College in Mattoon on Saturday, November 1st. Girls race at noon and boys race at 1pm.
